2011 Contacting Companies for Coupons Challenge

I have been involved in several trains here where we contacted companies to get coupons for products we use. Many are hard to find and only come from the manufacturer.

I would love to keep doing this even when not on a train but I always get off track and stop doing it. I need motivation and accountability. I would like to use this thread to keep track of who I contact and the responses I get. At some point I will make a master list of the companies with contact info from those we contact. Though you may contact conventional companies, this list will only include Organic/Natural products.

Who would like to join me? Anyone can join, even if you only have time for 1 contact a day, week or month - no problem. Join this challenge.

It will be easy, just post here who you contact and the contact link if you can - no pressure if you can't do that. Also, come back and post what you receive (NO - YES and what coupons).

How to contact companies for coupons:

1. Develop a system to keep track of who you contact - you could use your posting here, spreadsheet or a simple notebook.

2. Most companies will send out coupons again to you anywhere from 3-6 months apart. Keep that in mind when contacting.

3. Use google or other search engine (ie swagbucks) to find the contact info for companies. Just type in the company name and look for the "Contact us" link on the homepage. Oftentimes at the bottom of the page.

4. Use either the form provided or send an email to the company with your praise or complaint.

5. Keep your comment short and to the point with adding some personal story or something that will catch the eye of the reader.

6. Some tips on what to say:


Why you like or don't like
How it effects you or your family
Why you buy the product or what would make you buy the product again.
Be sure to give your name, address, zipcode in your email and comment section if not already in the form.
Keep it short - 1 paragraph is best - definitely no more than 2.
Opinions may vary - I always as if they can send me coupons when giving a compliment. I figure it doesn't hurt and that is why I am contacting them.
Be sincere and give thanks in closing.

Be aware that what your receive may differ from what someone else gets.

I know you have contacted some companies I had never heard of before. I need to spend more time at my health food store studying the products. LOL

I'm definitely up for the challenge! I was on a roll contacting companies for the trains last summer/fall, but have slacked off completely since then. I got some really generous responses last year, and my general approach was to include a compliment about the company (in general or a specific variety of their product) rather than only requesting coupons.

I'll aim to e-mail 2-4 companies each week - that should go a long way in replenishing my coupon stash :smile5:

I don't know if giving a compliment helps to get coupons or not, but if you don't ask for coupons when giving a compliment, you sometimes just get a simple "thank you" and no coupons. I always ask no matter if I give a compliment or not.

I feel like I hit the jackpot today! My mailbox was overflowing. I updated my OP with those already listed, so will list the others here:

On another note, I got the package from ecover with 3 1/1 coupons and 2 awesome tote bags, 4oz dishwasher liquid, 4oz cleaning liquid and 2 pk dishwasher tabs. By far my best package in awhile from a mfg.

This is probably not the thread to ask or even the site, but I'll ask away anyways. lol

I watch a child of a family that is having a hard time of time and struggle to put groceries on the table. She makes just a couple of dollars over the limit to get assistance. I've been trying to contact companies (conventional) for her to get her some really nice money off or even free coupons to buy her and her daughter groceries. If anyone has any suggestions, that would be appreciated.

The other day the 4-year-old came to me and said, "Sandy, I overheard my mommy saying that you were getting us coupons for food. My favorite food is potato salad." I said oh yes that is yummy isn't it? Does your mommy make that for you. She said no that her mommy doesn't have money for that. :( Then she asked me, Sandy, do you think that you could get us a coupon for potato salad so my could afford that for me? awwwwww broke my heart! I told her I would try. So I wrote Resers and told them the story. They said they are sending her out 2 coupons for free potato salad. Bless their heart! What awesome people they are!

I've only contacted a few so far because I'm not all that sure who to contact. I don't eat a bit of conventional foods and don't really know what she likes. I asked her to make a list and she did at work and then lost it. So she has to start again. I'm not sure what conventional companies even send coupons out. She said she'd eat almost anything if she had a coupon to get it free or cheap. Since I'm writing on her behalf, I use her name and address so that way I can contact a few companies I already did like Pictsweet, Earthbond Farms, Reesers or Popchips. I contacted Armour lunchmakers and she said she got 2 frees from them. If you've contacted a conventional company and got frees, I'd appreciate it if you could let me know so I could contact them on her behalf.

Do you have the Safeway thingie on their website that you can load coupons to your club card? It's always more than what's in the flyer, and they last longer as a rule to. They did have it so you could print them too, but I haven't found that lately....

Ya, O Organics are best just found on sale and stocked up on. :) And here they've lowered a few prices, and have you seen any of their new Open Nature brand? It's spendy, but what I've tried so far is good.

Ok, I heard from the dog food people, and they don't do coupons, but they are sending me a large breed puppy and large breed adult dog sample. :)

And this morning before I lay down for my "I'm glad he just left for work, NAP TIME!", and asked a homeschool magazine I never heard of before if they had a sample issue since I never heard of them before. I just got something in the mail, and it looked interesting. They have it broken up by grades and it deals with academic things for the kids with current events and how that fits in to a Biblical world view. Sounds really neat and on sale till the 15th of next month! :)

I let them know that I saw their product in my Publix and am looking forward to trying it. I asked if the had coupons available. They responded back with a yes. They stated they would send me a generous amount to share with friends and spread the word. Their reply back was super friendly, too!

Nice! I must say, a friendly response goes a long way in creating goodwill...I am much more likely to support companies who have responded kindly (whether or not they send 'stuff'). :smile:

I got a response from Tinkyada. Since a few have gotten no response, I figured an update would be nice: They don't have coupons for their products, and between costs and border policies, they can't ship samples (I didn't realize they're in Canada).

Ener-G foods does not have coupons for their products.
Ancient Harvest quinoa also told me no.

Ugh. Now I know why I don't contact companies that often. it's SO depressing when they tell you they don't do coupons. And it was Mrs. Meyer's. I tried sending them an email through their "contact us"...but something went wonky and it didn't go through. So in that error message they gave me a code to use during "checkout" for $1 off. Yay. Only I wasn't ordering online. I called them and got a real person:~) ~ who politely said to sign up for email offers, etc., that occasionally they send out promotional printable coupons, but they don't have manufacturer's coupons.

I kinda don't get that, because I've HAD coupons that I SWEAR were mfg. coupons. Maybe they were peelies, but they are still from THEIR company, right? I dunno. I get frustrated really quickly (can't tell, can ya'?) lol!

I just pulled the last one I have from my stash and it is a manufacturer coupon for $1/1 ANY Mrs. Meyers Clean Day Liquid Hand Soap exp. 12/31/11.

I think there was one on the laundry soap that I purchased almost 2 weeks ago too. I'm not 100% sure though. If you don't see any hang-tags on the bottles on the front of the shelves, make sure to look towards the back of the shelves, sometimes they hide! Good luck!

If you bought any of those Whole Planet Foundation 2011 Calendars for $2 at Whole Foods they have a $1/1 ANY Mrs. Meyers product store coupon in them. Good thru 12/31/11. Many Whole Foods stores let you stack manufacture coupons with store coupons.

Believe it or not, my WF did not get the calendars:( ~ they said none of the New England WF were getting them:shrug2:. My WF, does, however, let us stack coupons! I will have the ones from their monthly newsletter thingy, then print the coupons from their website, AND use any mfg. coupons I have. I didn't realize, until a few months ago (and that's thanks to DH!) that their IP q's have different bar codes than their newsletter q's ~ and they look EXACTLY THE SAME and are for the same amount off, but since the bar codes are different, they both scan so I'm getting double the savings:carrot1: there and then add my mfg q on top...plus if the items is on sale:encourage6:!

Oh wow! That's awesome! Good on DH! I was just wondering last night if I'd be able to use 2 different WF store coupons for the same item together- like a calendar coupon and a Whole Deal coupon. I'll have to check with my local WF first though.


Today, I received (8) $0.55/1 Eden Foods coupons minus all the brochures and catalog. I specifically asked them to please not send all the other paper since I don't order online and can find all that information on their website. The last two times I requested coupons from them it cost their company between $2 and $3 to send them with all the extra paper that was included and it all went right to my recycle bin.

Alexia must have changed their policy, because I believe a looooong time ago, I contacted them and they sent me coupons. They are correct...they have coupons (quite frequently) in advertisements/coupons from the newspaper.

Honestly, I'm not expecting much of anything (if at all) because some of them I don't think have coupons, like Just Tomatoes. I've contacted 73 so far in 2012 (well I started contacting Dec 28th for 2012 coupons). I contacted hundreds last year in 2011. :)
