THUMBS UP Adidas has eco-friendly socks

Boy are they soft! They are ankle socks for women, made from ~70-80% bamboo. I can't wait to try them and see how they feel. I usually only buy good socks for DH & DS, but I'm glad I got some good ones for me! My average price per pair that I try to stick to is $1/pair. I'm happy to say that with my phenomenal shopping skills the end result was about $1.02/pair. The regular retail is $18/4-pack, but I went to an outlet that had a sticker price of $12.95. They were also having a 30% off all socks sale, so that brought the price down to ~$9/4-pack.

My main reason for going to Adidas was to exchange some items that were the wrong size etc., and I wanted to get some sports bras too. I was shocked by the "sale price" of $19.99 each. Then I noticed a little advertisement that showed that if you bought $50, you get $10 off...if you bought $80, you get $20...and if you bought $100, you get $30 off. I was already at $40, so I figured I could at least find $10 more to get for "free." Well, I got to thinking...scary thought, I know, and this is how I got $188 (retail $) for less than $50:
A few weeks ago, I went and bought sneakers from Adidas (I already type the long story up, but my browser crashed and I hate typing and I hate retyping even more...). I ended up getting a reusable bag that in itself is a 10% coupon off your entire purchase every time you use it in their store. In addition to that, the bag had an additional 20% your purchase coupon that expires 6/21/09.

While the clerk went to look for the exchanged items, I looked around the store for the sports bras. Like I mentioned before, I was completely shocked by the price tag. Who spends that much anyway?! I ended up grabbing 2 sports bras, 1 6-packs of boys' socks, 2 4-packs of women's socks, 1 boys' t-shirt, 1 men's long-sleeve shirt, and 2 pairs men's shorts. I knew my total would be close to the $100, and it ended up being $102.XX! After the $30/$100 and the 20% off, and the 10% bag discount, I paid $49.XX . I've tried to figure out how the discounts all worked, but my numbers are always around $52/$53. But I'm not complaining! I added all the regular prices that crazy people pay ($188--who pays that much?). I saved 74%! I figured that I paid about $1/pair of socks, and about $5.83 for each of the other items. I know I could get cheaper clothes elsewhere, but the long-sleeve shirt was a liscenced football shirt that DH loves and retails for $30 or more. I wish more of the items were eco-friendly, but at least my socks were. Every little bit counts.

Awesome! That's a pretty significant percentage. I bought some 'made of bamboo' socks and after I got them home and opened the package come to find out they were only like 10 or 20%...I got ripped off, lol! They were soft though and BOGO FREE, so it wasn't a total loss. Bamboo is incredibly soft. My sheets which are around 50 or 60% bamboo are the softest sheets I've ever owned. I love them!

I just looked up some of the environmental practices of Adidas, and this is what I came up with: adidas: Engaging our stakeholders: Environment & adidas: Protecting the Environment

Of course, it is coming from Adidas themselves, so more research really needs to be done. I like what I've read so far though.

Awesome!
I have always been a diehard Adidas girl, so this makes them even better to me.
Unlike a lot of women who love SHOES I'm not like that. I have one pair of brown shoes and one pair of black for work, but sneakers on the other hand...I have like 10 pairs. A pair for mowing the lawn, two for exercising, an old school pair....you get my drift.
I have many Adidas t-shirts for summer and of course ya gotta have a couple of snuggy hoodies.

I was just talking to my friend who said that she had previously bought socks made with bamboo and they didn't last :(...I really hope these do.

Something I want to look into also, is the "how eco-friendly is bamboo products." Within the same talk, we discussed bamboo vs. cotton etc. Supposedly, companies use a lot of chemicals to make the bamboo so soft, more so than those using cotton. Organic cotton or conventional cotton, I'm not sure which. One more thing to look into!
