I will take you along in my journey into organics one baby step at a time.
I live in a area with pretty limited organic area. No Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, or Wild Oats. Just 2 conventional grocery stores and a SuperWalmart and a Kmart. No farmers markets, CSA, or anything for hundreds of miles...so it's going to be baby steps for me all the way. One product at a time. And if I can stockpile something...even better.

R.W. Knudsen Organic Sparking Pear Juice

In perfect time for the holiday season I spotted lovely sparking bottles of R.W. Knudsen Sparking Pear Juice on sale at Smith's this week for 2 for $4.00 and sitting right there around the neck of the bottles were hang tags for .60c off 2 bottles. So for $1.70 a bottle I picked up 2 bottles to give a try.
I thought this was a nice item to buy to bring in the new year this year with my family. Of course because I needed to write this blog entry I had to open one of the bottles and give it a taste test. So Hannah, my 10 year old daughter, and I cracked open the bottle and poured ourselves a drink. With an easy to open screw top bottle I was impressed with how easy it was to open.
Hannah thought we were drinking something else and was all giddy till I told her that is was just fizzy juice. But she still got a kick out of drinking what looked like a grown up drink out of a wine glass. Kids are funny that way, and this was a good opportunity to talk to her about drinking.
We took our first sip and both of us commented on the very pear taste, which was strong and crisp and tasted like drinking a fresh pear. I will admit that the juice was a bit too sweet for my palate, but Hannah thought it was just right. The bubbles were just right, not too many and not flat. In fact it gave Hannah a nice burp after drinking, which was a nice opportunity to talk about manners!
Overall I would give this a 4 star rating out of 5 possible stars. I choose a 4 star rating simply because I thought it was a bit too sweet. But if you are just having a small glass to toast in a special occasion it was just fine, but I could not see drinking more than a small glass myself.
The price was right, especially with a coupon. But even without a coupon $2.00 a bottle is not bad at all. Being the holiday season I am sure this or comparable prices will be out in other stores as well. Compared to champagne, of course, $2.00 a bottle is steal.
After drinking my cup of R.W. Knudsen's Organic Sparking Pear Juice, I ventured over to their website: R.W.Knudsen
Where I found that they also make an Organic Sparking Apple Juice as well under their Celebratory line. I did not see this variety in my store, but since I will need to get another bottle or two before new years eve, I will keep my eyes peeled for the apple variety as well.
I also looked at their Promotions tab on their website and found to my excitement a .75c off 1 printable COUPON which will bring the price down even further to $1.25 a bottle. Thanks R.W. Knudsen!
I am off this weekend to see if I can find a nice Organic Champagne to try as well, I will post in my blog if I am successful in my quest. Cause once the kids go to bed, I am sure hubby and I can make use of something made for adults!

| | Sounds great Heidi! I've never tried their brand before but DH and I enjoy a good sparkler for special occasions. I'll have to keep it in mind to try that brand next time we buy something like that. Have fun with that champagne! ![]() |

| | Well I looked around the liquior department at Albertsons yesterday and was unsuccessfull in finding any organic brands of champagne or even wine. There are liquior stores here with a wider selection but it seems to me that they are bit seedier as they are either attached to a bar or have a drive thru window (yes Wyoming has drive thru liquior stores!) So my pursuit of a organic adult beverage to celebrate with my husband has been called off. The nice thing though that while checking out with a bag of potatoes in the liquior dept at Albertsons the cashier said she would start saving Catalinas for me...yeah me! |
