FYI CVS Reusable Bag Program

CVS has jumped into the reusable bag credit game, although with a slight twist. For 99˘ you can purchase a "Green Bag Tag" -- a tag with a barcode that you can attach to any reusable bag you already have (like a luggage tag). They'll scan the tag every time you use it, and after every 4th scan you'll earn a $1 Extra Care Buck.

Even though it costs 99˘ up front, I'll make that back pretty quickly. Assuming that I continue to shop at CVS about 3 times a month, I'll get an extra $9/year just for bringing my own bag. I almost always bring my own bags to the supermarket, but often forget to grab one when I shop at a drugstore -- I'm pretty sure I'll remember much more often now

Not much in the way of fine print, aside from a limit of one tag use/scan per day per household, and of course, CVS reserves the right to modify or terminate the program at any time.

I will give credit to them for using recycled/renewable materials to make the tags -- the tag itself is a corn-based material, the lanyard is 100% recycled silicone and the card it's attached to is 100% recycled paper.

They should be stacking these at the registers, but you may have to ask (the cashier that rang up my purchase yesterday told me about it, but the were still in a box on the floor behind the counter).

They may keep them behind the counter if you have to pay for the initial tag. That's something that would be easily stolen/taken without knowing (little kids grabbing etc).

That's a good idea. I'm sure if people have more than one card though, this could be abused easily.
