    Default Heart-Shaped Bird Feeder!

This is so cute! I have to remember to get bird seed. I only have sunflower seeds from the garden. I could see lots of other cool shapes too!

This wonderful admin just took care of ya!

Oh, and cute bird feeder, too. Too bad the birds that feed from cute feeders aren't cute. Ack!

That is really cute! Though in my yard the morbidly obese squirrels would finish them off way before any birds even knew they were there!

This might sound crazy, but you can mix in some red pepper flakes/powder to discourage the squirrels. The birds can't taste it, but the squirrels can -- and they don't like it.

I never knew about that-- thanks for the tip! The squirrels here are insanely greedy. I try to get the dog to scare them off any chance I get, but it turns out that just drove (pardon the pun) them to nest under the hood of our Escape. I feel like I can't win!

Are you sure we don't live next to each other?! That sounds like the description of my squirrels!

JJ, I've tried this and my (morbidly obese) squirrels don't care! Seriously, they still chow it down. Although in this house, we don't have a problem with them attacking our feeders like our other house; they are content to feed off the ground (so it really beats me how they are becoming so fat this year!). Maybe someone else will have better luck with the red pepper.

That's what I was thinking of suggesting. There's so few squirrels here, it would be nice to have a FEW. But we don't have but a few scrubby Russian Olives by us, so not likely we'll have problems with that for now. Psh, I don't even have a spot to hang them! Lol

To be honest, they're a weed tree. They were brought here years ago and took over. They are actually sold in tree catalogs. They're a dusty olive green, little leaves, grow sour olives, and I believe have thorns.

They look worse bc everything's all sage brush and dirt here. This is off Wickipedia.

Some squirrels will eat anything... we lucked out this winter (so far, anyway) and have a fairly small number of squirrels hanging around our yard. They haven't touched the suet (which has red pepper already mixed in), and have mostly stayed off of the seed feeders (that I added some pepper to). I think a big part of it is that they have easy access to food they like better than the "spicy" blend -- there are other houses that hang birdfeeders on our block, and woods with lots of pine trees nearby.

    Crazy squirrels...

Maybe ya'll should plant some nut trees or oaks just for the squirrels - as far from the bird feeders as possible. Lol

I wonder.....I know they sell squirrel food, but I can't imagine that would stop them from chowing the bird food....

Heck, we feed the deer (yeah, I know...then they eat my garden, we ask for it) and the squirrels are just sitting there, WITH THE DEER, eating. I just don't think they can ever get enough food!

No! Then the vermin just tear your yard and flower beds to bit burying the d**n things!

Lol I don't love or hate them, but they're not a problem here and I guess since we lived in such deep forests all my life, they had better things to do than bother the birds.

The lady who owned our house before we bought it planted numerous crabapple trees, a huge holly tree, and numerous other bushes that have winter seed pods to feed all of the animals. There are various nut-producing trees along the sidewalks that the city planted many many years ago.

But you know what they do? They eat all of that, go to the neighbors house for peanuts, then come to our house for birdseed and to dig up our darn bulbs!

It's like the Old Country Buffett, I tell you!

We just made these today. Turned out pretty cute but we had to add an extra cup of seed and MAKE SURE the foil goes up higher than you fill them, and you don't tear the foil. You'll have a mess. Guess how I know. Lol
