Green Thumb Gardening Terms and Definitions

I will be posting some common gardening terms and definitions as time allows. I will post pictures whenever possible to help illistrate what I am talking about.

This will be a closed thread so that I can use it as a resource, if you have questions or a term you need defined please shoot me a PM and I will answer ASAP as well as add any additional terms to this guide.

A root that develops from a location on a plant above the surface of the earth or water, as from a stem. For example, some orchids have aerial roots that grow from their stems and absorb water directly from the air.

Air Layering

a method of propagating a plant by girdling or cutting part way into a stem or branch and packing the area with a moist medium, as sphagnum moss, stimulating root formation so that the stem or branch can be removed and grown as an independent plant.
