Default Grow potatoes in a garbage can

I love this idea - keeps the soil from getting blighted where you're planting potatoes since they have to be rotated - this way, you can just dump the soil and use new next year.

Interesting. Thanks for sharing! I really wanted to try potatoes this year but never got the chance to. Maybe next year.

Hmmm, I'm thinking I should ask my BIL (the potato farmer) what he thinks of this!

I have been thinking about try to grow potatoes in tubs or bins.

Has anyone tried it and had luck?

We have grown them in our regular garden and had OK success. They take up alot of room, so we quit growing them.

I think my kids might like the idea of a bin of potatoes???

I wound up doing mine in raised bed boxes. The seed potatoes in one box are sprouting, and then in another box, last year, I planted actual potato seeds and then DH dug up the plant thinking it was a weed. So I planted my corn, fertilized, and started watering, and lo and behold, up sprouted the potatoes. So, hopefully, we'll have potatoes in a few months!

I had given up on my garbage can potatoes....until this morning. I walked past the can & saw something green. I have 7 potato plants! About 4 inches high! I hope they are not just some sort of weed I've never seen before! I'll keep you posted!

I thought it was a weed too at first - I kept pulling it, and they kept coming back. It's potatoes! They can take a long time to get going, but then once they do, they grow fast. I hilled most of mine last night, but I ran out of dirt.
