Can anyone identify these flowers?

There are a lot of plants on our property that we have literally NO IDEA about what they are. I've been meaning to ask about this pretty flower and this other really cool textured thing. They look like they are on the same plant, but it's hard to tell...

I know they are Perennials as no one lived here for a few years before we bought the house.

ETA: I thought the purple one was Clematis, but the cotton-puff thing threw me off as I've never seen anything like that before.

Can anyone help?

You were right -- it is clematis (the seed heads do look like weird Dr. Seuss poofs).

The clematis is beautiful, my mom has these. I have never had luck with them. You are lucky!!

Its a Clematis!

Michaela ...they do look like those darned thistles don't they...these are the bane of my garden each year!
