RX Corn Silk Tea

I was sharing my garden with my neighbor today - a little old Iraqi woman who was an Ob-Gyn for many years. We were talking about the corn in my yard and she shared that her sister told her many years ago about boiling cornsilk.

Apparently, drinking the "corksilk tea" will help relieve kidney stones, acts as a natural diuretic if you're retaining water, relieve pain if you have it when you pee, can reduce prostate inflammation, and apparently can even reduce PMS symptoms. So I'm thinking it's helps anything in the "down there" variety of issues.

Recipe is like 1/4 cup of fresh cornsilk to 8z of boiling water seeped for about 5 minutes, and then strained of the fibers. You can sweeten with honey or infuse other herbs with it.

I have no idea how it tastes, but I thought I would share.

Also, I would recommend making sure the corn hasn't been sprayed with pesticides if you're going to try this.

I am not a tea drinker, but if anyone does try it, please do share!

If my corn ripens, I'll try it! My garden is organic.

Mine too! My first batch of corn should be ready in about a week. Sadly, we might not be here when it's ready to go. Told my neighbors they could pick it all. Second batch should be ready right about the time we come home from Alaska in late August.

Corn silk tea is something my Grandmother used to make -- and if I recall correctly she'd just let the silk dry on a paper towel (overnight?) and then store it in a jar until needed. Never tried it myself (not a big tea drinker)...
