CHAT Seeking out "Manager's Specials" pays off!

The main reason I love Kroger is the abundance of "Manager's Specials" on organic foods and produce. I never know what I'll find, so I take my coupons with me always.

Today I found 1/2 gallons of Horizon & Organic Valley Lactose Free milk marked down to $1.

For the Horizon, I had a .55/1 Horizon coupon that brought it down to .45!!

I bought 3 1/2 gallons. Granted, the expiry date is Nov 3, but I have learned that organic milk will last longer past the expiry date than conventional milk - I've rarely had any spoilage with organic milk. Plus, did you know that you can freeze milk?

Anyone else getting any great "Manager's Specials" deals?

I need to find out when they are. The Weis up the road has a really nice selection of organic/natural meats, but the prices are a little more than I'm willing to pay. I hardly ever see people buying from that case when I'm there so I know they must mark them down before they sell them.

I don't shop Safeway nearly enough to catch their markdowns, but maybe I should do some investigating and find out what day they mark down the meat.

I do get marked down produce from Mars supermarket, Giant, Superfresh, and even the local farm stand. I'm amazed at the great deals we can get on those!

I like looking in the meat dept for their managers specials. The last time I was there, I found ground turkey for 99˘ lb and bought them all up and froze them. Hehe!

Mark downs happen whenever merchandise needs to move, and I see/buy markdowns every day of the week. Keep your eyes peeled while strolling the dairy+egg cases, bagged salad shelves, meat, seafood, deli and bread areas for those bright orange/yellow stickers.

Basically anything fresh is a good candidate for great markdown deals. I pick up loads of stuff at Safeway, Freddies and QFC for next to nothing after coupons.

I've seen stickers before on the regular meat, but not organic.

I've never seen any produce markdowns before at Safeway, so I'll have to really pay attention the next time I am there. Thanks for all of the info! Now if only Maryland Safeway stores would have the same doubles policy as the rest of the stores...

I am always able to find great "Manager Specials" @ my King Sooper's. I love the fact that you are able to use Q's on them~which saves me even more $$$. I have been able to find Laura's meat on "Manager's Specials in the past." It is rare, but Organic meat does get marked down every once in awhile!!

Tonight I found .99 Private Selection Organic bread on manager markdown!

I bought a couple of extra loaves to freeze. This isn't our favorite bread, but at that price it'll do. I'm wanting to make Kristen's awesome made-just-for-me stuffing recipe for Christmas again, so it'll be perfect to use in that recipe.

Tonight I found Horizon Organic lactose free 1/2 gallons for $1. I'm lactose intolerant and never buy lactose free milk b/c of the higher mark up, so I celebrated my good find with a big ol' bowl of cereal for dinner tonight. :D

I don't shop @ any Kroger Co. stores, but I've been finding some good deals on produce markdowns lately. This week it was "overripe" bananas for $.19/#--the outside was dark, but they were still pretty firm. I know you can freeze bananas (I won't do it), but DS and I made banana bread with them. Last week, I found multi-colored bell pepper rings for $.99/pkg. Each pkg. was about 1#. If I had bought more, I would have cut them up and popped them in the freezer for a future stir-fry. Just some ideas for others not knowing what to do with markdown produce.

Yesterday, I found Annie's Cinna Bunnies cereal for $2.14 and wheat free organic animal cookies for $2.49. My Kroger also has several types of fruit bars on clearance. Watch for blinkie machines in the organics section. I found .75/1 frozen veggies (sorry, it's in the car....).

Am I a nerd for getting a thrill over cheap organic butter? (Don't answer that, Heather.)

I was making a mad dash through Kroger last night, and I found Organic Valley whipped butter (in the produce section of all places) marked down to $1/tub. The expiry isn't until September, and I took all they had - 4. I used the $1/2 Go Organic booklet coupons to get them for .50/each!

Also, in the same section they had the Oikos organic yogurt for .49! No coupons on me for those, so I only bought 4.

Are you guys finding any good manager specials at Kroger?

I found the 16oz bags of Garden of Eatin' Blue Chips on clearance for $1.29 at Ralphs (Kroger store). Now that I know that my family likes the blue chips, they are all gone. I should have just boughten them all when I had the chance. Lesson learned.

YES! Manager's specials are the highlight of my day sometimes :)

Earth's Best cheese crackers
Odwalla bars
Bare Naked granola
Gobs of dried fruits (blueberries and cranberries)
Bagged salad
Kroger brand soymilk
O'Soy yogurt
Cage Free brown eggs

And this was all in ONE day! It was like they were trying to move a bunch of organic/health stuff. That was a total score for me (a month ago).

Almost every time I go in I get at least 2 things on Manager's Special.

On Saturdays my local Ultra marks down Earthbound lettuces (in the plastic containers) to either $1.99 or $.99. I use the 1/1 or .75/1 coupons and have gotten lots of lettuce free or almost free. My bunnies love it.
