I just need some motivation to get moving. I can find an excuse everytime for just not getting off my butt an moving (its too cold, I can't afford the gym, the kids are driving me crazy, Im tired, everyone has piled crap on the treadmill, the house is a mess, I can't find any socks, blah blah blah......)

For those who need initial motivation, buy a set of resistance tubing. Initial investment is very small-roughly $10 for each band. You can use them during down times watching TV, while reading posts here on OGD and doing lunges with them at the same time. They are so versatile, easy to pack for trips and make home workouts a lot more challenging and fun. I have a variety of tubes from yellow (light resistance) to blue (hardest resistance). I also have medicine balls, a stability ball, BOSU, yoga equipment, variety of dumbbells, weight bench, barbell and DVDS so when the weather is bad, I am not in the mood, etc I can then exercise at home.

Bleh - went on vacation last week so I did not lose any more weight. But that is Ok because we ate out so much (and I had some wine and martinis ). Anyway I'm back in the saddle so I should be losing weight again (I weigh myself every Wednesday!). I was even good last night on V Day!

how's your butt feeling? sculpted yet .

A great think about the resistance tubing is that when the band you are using is getting too easy and you don't have the next resistance band or just not ready to go to the next band, you can add light dumbbells at the same time as using the band and make the exercises more challenging!

Hey y'all. I just decided to take a look around over here since HCW is down. :(

Anyway, thought I'd join in the exercise discussion and let y'all know that I've just started training to run a 5K for the first time in my life! I've been adding minutes of jogging onto my workout each week. I'm up to 5 minutes of jogging/2 and a half minutes of walking and doing 4 reps of that 5 times per week. Next week I will add minutes to make it 7 minutes of jogging/3 minutes of walking. At the end of the 10 weeks then I should be up to 30 minutes of jogging! I'm soooo excited that I'm actually jogging and LOVING it!

C'mon y'all...join me! :)

My fat butt is not in any shape to jog....but way to go shoppingdiva!

I got a package in the mail today thinking it was my new resistance bands...was disapointed to find a big ol box with 2 free samples of scar cream....maybe they will come on monday.

lol...I hear ya'. I thought the same thing, but I was surprised that I was able to jog. The first time was for 2 minutes....and I jog REALLY SLOW! But speed doesn't matter, endurance does....or so I keep telling myself.
I still need to lose some more weight to get to my goal weight but I've decided to concentrate on the 5K as my goal right now instead of major weight loss. I'm hoping weight loss will be a by-product of the 5K training.

DH took me out to get some of the tubing today! I have resistance bands but they didn't have handles and they're pretty old so I decided to upgrade in the name of OGD. I also got a new yoga mat too- I got completely spoiled today.

The bands aren't the same brand since I decided to get a boxed set-- I'll have to check to see what they are but we got them at Dick's sporting goods. They had a box of 3 different tubes with an exercise DVD for $29.99. The really thick Yoga mat I got was also on sale for $29.99.

Kimberly- Did you happen to drink any milk or dairy before you went to the class? I haven't done spinning but when I used to run track we weren't supposed to drink milk for lunch since it would make us sick in the afternoon when we had practice. Marci takes spinning classes so she might be able to offer a little more advice for you.

BTW- DH and I still owe you a package and I feel horrible that it hasn't been sent yet. I promise it will go out this week!!!!!

Sorry, I haven't replied earlier-things have been CRAZY around here.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE spinning classes ! It's killer in the beginning and when you take time off ( it was hard going back after 10 months of being gone due to pregnancy and post partum). When I was preggo with DS, I had to stop going cuz my HR got too high and it was too intense.

The reason you felt like you were going to throw up was because of the spikes in your heart rate. When you increase your heart rate rapidly then it comes down rapidly (ie when you get out of the saddle and go back in or doing intervals), this can happen. If you don't already have one, get yourself a heart rate monitor. I have a Polar one that I have had for years and it is awesome! They can be pricey but it is well worth the investment. If you are unable to splurge for the monitor right now, just use your RPE (rate of perceived exertion). If you have a good spin instructor, they should be able to tell you throughout the class what your RPE should be, what percent of your max HR you should be at, as well as alternatives to reduce intensity.

You may also want to adjust the tension knob down on the bike. Ease into the class and the intervals and it will make each session easier.

Good luck and welcome to the spinning club. I am totally addicted! I try to make a Tues night class and a Sat morning class cuz that's when my fave instructor teaches. He is brutal but I like that kind of exercising.

Awesome, Kristen! How do you like them?

I just got finished doing some exercises on my BOSU ball with my Reebok adjustable weights. I was going to go to the gym but by the time I finished making a paper crown for DD and poster board cutouts of Backyardigans characters for her, it was 7 PM. Still had to clean up the kitchen. And since I am not a night owl, 7:30 is just too late for me to get changed, drive to the gym, get a good workout in and then come home shower my stinky butt off and watch a movie before I pass out.

So while DH supervised DD's night time routine, I listened to some music in my bedroom, took out my weights and BOSU and did an upper body workout. Although BOSU balls are expensive, they add a huge degree of difficulty and variation to your workouts. I do pushups on the flat side with the ball side on the floor. This makes a great core stabilization workout and much harder to do a standard push up!
