Get Movin' Goal-Week of 4/6/08

This week's fitness goal is:
Do at least one non "stereotypical" and fun form of exercise to get that heart rate up!

Post what you did so we can all get motivated!

DH and I took both kids to the neighborhood park this afternoon. It's about 1/2 mile from our house. I pushed the 24 lb 10 month old both ways in the stroller and carried the bag o' stuff-wooweeh! DH carried our 33 lb 3.5 yr old on his shoulders. The walk was up and down hills so we got a nice butt burn going

.

We had a healthy picnic lunch with sandwiches on whole grain whole wheat bread and some water. Baby had his sweet potato/carrot bisque baby soup.

Played on the monkey bars, slides, swings, etc before we packed up and walked back home.

Great family bonding time and a great workout!

Hmm, well I went shopping so that meant running in and out of stores and lugging heavy bags back to the car. Also, I just gathered up all my dirty laundry and and carried some heavy laundry baskets down the stairs. Does that count? ;)

I have a cold, but I'm surprised what a rut I'm in. Haven't thought of any "stereotypical". No wonder I don't exercise. This is a good challenge for me to think outside the box of my exercise, or should I say non-exercise, rut.

Can holding the 24 lb baby the majority of the day count as a work out?

He is too long/big for most slings and baby bjorn so I have to hold him with my arms while I do everything. I feel the burn by the end of the day.

Well I had really planned to spend an afternoon at one of the local parks that has lovely cherry blossoms but like prayerbear I have an awful cold- or is it allergies? This time of year I can never be sure. I might even still go feeling this way however the weather has been uncooperative with my plans. There's no way I'm going to be able to enjoy anything outdoors when the temperature is in the low 40's and it's raining.

So for my "non-traditional" exercise today I'm going to be doing some (heavy duty for me) cleaning. Pushing the vacuum back and forth, reaching up and stretching to dust, etc can break a sweat if you don't stop to take breaks and go at with with a fury.

If you're getting a cold, don't do any heavy duty cleaning! Take it easy! Hope you feel better

It's humid, overcast, and supposed to be 81 here today-yuck. My allergies have been horrible the past few weeks.

I decided not to dust, but our vacuum has a really good filter on it so I don't think that will bother my respiratory system. I'm just itching to do stuff!

I took a double dose of my b12 today

(Don't worry, I was given permission to do that every once in awhile if my energy level slumps) I'm thinking it might be about time for a hip shot!

We have a Dyson Animal vacuum and both DH and I love it cuz we can empty it without sneezing or flaring up our allergies. And it picks up our lovely cocker's long hair.

Alright, I finally met my goal for the week! Today Tucker and I went to Centennial Park and walked around the lake. It was almost 70 and the sun was shining so I couldn't imagine staying inside. Especially since we've had rain all this week and most of last week, and there's more rain in the forecast again tomorrow. This may have been our only chance to get out for a long walk for awhile.

We were almost attacked by a goose (Did you know they hiss and have tongues?!?!) and that REALLY got my heart rate up.

OMG, Kristen, I would have FREAKED!! I don't do things with beaks. Or wings. Or feathers. *shudders*

Ok, I finally did my "non stereotypical" activity: I jumped rope with the little one. I got up to 30 jumps before I almost passed out, lol! Tomorrow's goal: 50 jumps!

I'm gonna finish cleaning out the basement. The old tenant left all of his junk and the landlord said it would be okay if we used the whole thing (we do a lot of work for him, so he gives us nice privileges) This will involve stairs and walking across the yard luggin items of various weights and will probably take me about an hour. Sorry to say though, that I think the project might have to wait a couple of days, I think I am finally catching that flu. I'm achy, and let's just say my stomach is very unhappy with it's life right now. BOOOOO! Oh well, rather catch it now so I am not sick for "the event" in may ;)

Best of luck on your goals everyone. I do need to lose some of my thunderbutt - but as long as it fits into my pink wedding dress, I really don't give a hoot!

Juju, great job with the jump roping! That is excellent cardio work!! I have horrible coordination and can't even do one normal jump

. Plus, DD only has a small Dora jump rope so that is a good excuse for me

.

Mel, sounds like the basement job will be lots of work-rest though cuz that flu is horrible! I wanna see a pic of that pink wedding dress-sounds very sassy

DD and I played outside this morning while the beefcake took his morning nap. I was lifting and swinging my 34 lb DD on the tree so that gave me somewhat of a workout but the baby gives me more. He wants to be held all the time and he's at least 24 lbs as of 3 wks ago. So my arms are hurting at the end of the day.

Great job, everyone, incorporating some exercise into your daily routine. Life gets busy sometimes but it is important to do something beneficial for our health every day. Okay, I'll get off my soapbox now...

I keep forgetting to post...

Sunday we took the girls to the park to fly kites!

We had so much fun and I really got my exercise when the littlest one thought it would be funny to watch mommy chase the kite 100 yards uphill!!

<- Imagine this as more of a buckled over, out of breath, almost lying on the ground....

So we are suppsoed to have cold weather again this weekend. I am not sure what we will do. We have been doing great getting out on the weekends and doing activities with the children. The week before we went to the state park and took the kids hiking (one was wearing flip-flops, the other ended up with a bump on her head... and the third, well she did alright

)

I was taking pictures of it, and it got annoyed. I was so flummoxed I didn't even get a picture of when it "attacked." You'd think I would have left after that, but no, we stuck around!

Well, since I've been sick all week I'll give up and just take breathing as my non sterotypical exercise.

Being sick actually made me slow down and get priorities straight so it was a good thing.

Feeling much better now so I'm going to run out and do some Ralph's deals and pick up some Amy's enchiladas while they're still on sale.

Getting some basement work done today, and I think I will dig up the rocky dirt in the area where I am putting in a flower garden this year :) I think it's like 46 degrees outside - after last weekend, I'll take it lol!!!

I think my only goal is to walk upright at the moment, the flu is kicking my butt and I haven't had much time to rest.

Once I am feeling better, though - it's gardening and I will be cleaning out the apartment upstairs, because that girl is evicted on the 4th --- I do have a feeling it will be a high impact workout lol!!!

By the way, we did get the basement cleaned out!
