CHAT Amish Markets?

Does anyone shop at any Amish markets? I don't really know how they work, if they are "chains", or what. I read an article once about Amish markets that were buyout-type places like Big Lots.

However, last week while visiting family in Wisconsin, my aunt took me to a Amish market near her house and it was great! They had some buyout-type things, but mostly they sold items in bulk. I bought so much at an awesome price that I shipped a box home and still came out ahead. They had every type of dried spices and herbs imaginable, plus flours, noodles, fresh produce & more!

The store was super-crowded, so I didn't get a chance to ask if the products were grown/produced by them or where they came from. The packaging was all clear containers with a simple label listing ingredients and weight.

Anyone else ever shopped at an Amish market or know anything about them? I'm wondering if I can find one closer to home.

Default Re: Amish Markets?

I grew up in the Poconos area of Pennsylvania which is just a hop, skip and jump from Amish country. Living outside of Baltimore now, we're still pretty close to Amish country. I've shopped at their markets before and I think depending on the community/type of market you can find tons of stuff. The big thing over here is the handmade quilts and Amish baked goods/candy. You can get these kinds of things for a steal. The furniture is a little higher priced but for handcrafted, solid-wood pieces I don't think the price is unfair. I haven't been to any recently- maybe I should bother DH about it by bribing him with the promise of stopping at Hershey's Chocolate World...
