Default Clorox Greenworks - I have to say it ......

Alright, it's irking me to no end. I am seeing this stuff EVERYWHERE. They are advertising for it like it is going to save the world ...... made by the same people who brought the toxins into our house in the first place! So, after that, I am supposed to just go out and pat them on the back for doing the right thing (finally)? If the green line is a better option, why do I still see the non green stuff on the shelf next to it? It makes it seem like if you want to use eco friendly items it is a choice or a lifestyle, rather than the safer new alternative.

I wouldn't give those people my money anyway, but they will get the money from people who are thinking of making the switch and don't hold a grudge toward the companies who have been helping pollute our planet for ages. I know they aren't the only ones, can I just say though, that I am really bugged by all of these companies who are developing new "green products" because it is "the thing" right now - but if you don't mean it, don't do it. If you aren't going to take the toxic items off of the shelf, you obviously don't believe in the green products in the first place. Personally, I prefer to use companies who have given a darn about the planet all along, and I know there are many others out there who feel the same way.

And to be fair, no, it is never too late to do the right thing and do your part, as long as you are doing it for the right reasons.

Big rant. sorry if any of you guys like that stuff, that company just offends me! :)

Yeah, I think since Clorox bought Burt Bees they think they have some "marketing pipeline" into the natural industry.

But instead of making me want to buy their toxic cleaners, they've just caused me to find a new lip balm!

And if they think it is going to hurt their business, they could just readjust the formula and then say "New and Improved"... And never bother with the old crap!

I haven't bothered reading the label on the new stuff, but it's not like I'm going to trust the folks at clorox to not still be putting toxic crap in their products. I'm no scientist, but I'm sure that whatever is in there has a really long name that would have to be looked up (and most likely causes your skin to fall off with repeated exposure lol)

I'm with you ladies... I love my Seventh Generation products and feel like they're a brand that I can trust. Although the price on the the Greenworks stuff does seem attractive. ;)

When I saw the Clorox Green stuff, I did wonder why the old clorox would still be on the shelves? I like the "lifestyle choice" explanation. By leaving everything as a "lifestyle" choice, they can invade new markets while still holding on to their old ones. I had been buying 7th generation before clorox came out with their stuff, and more recently have been experimenting with homemade cleaners me and my pal share the cost of ingredients and make it ourself

Default Re: Clorox Greenworks - I have to say it ......

Well I will come in from the other end... as someone that is pretty new to even thinking about buying better for the environment cleaning supplies I like that a brand that I already know and is readily available in most markets (even small towns in Wyoming) is putting out a product that I can easily find and is a better choice for the planet. Is it perfect? No its not. But if they are bringing green cleaning products to the masses instead of the elite few that have money for products like Seventh Generation or that have big natural/organic stores in thier area I think what they are doing is good for that reason.

So why are they not getting rid of thier old line of products? Who knows. Perhaps they are going to phase it out as the green line takes off. Perhaps they are just giving folks an alternative if this is a choice they want.

Personaly I am not buying thier whole line because I am trying to 1) use up my cleaning supply stockpile that I have already before buying any new stuff. 2.) as I run out of my traditional cleaners I am looking for other alternatives, whether that will be green products that I buy or green cleaning products that I can make at home. Im trying to work in homemade where I can but there is still some products, like toilet bowl cleaner, that I have not found works that great for my toilet bowls. I posted about using the clorox toilet bowl cleaner already and it seems to be OK for everyother day use in my household. Its not great but its OK. Ill continue to buy it untill I find something that works better and I can afford.

I think that if we want to see greener choices being used by more folks that we need to make the prices right so that more people can afford them. If I am average Jane doing my weekly shopping and I need window cleaner I look at the shelf of products and I see

Generic toxic cleaner for $1.00 a bottle
Name brand toxic cleaner for $2.00 a bottle
Name brand (clorox) non toxic cleaner for $2.50 a bottle
High end non toxic cleaner for $4.00 a bottle.

Now if I could careless about the toxicity of my cleaning supplies or brand loyalty then Ill just get the generic. If I like name brand products Ill get the name brand stuff.

If I am trying to be environmentaly resposible but still price concious then ill buy the clorox stuff. And if I have money to burn or am really into the green living stuff and know all there is about green products then ill get the high end cleaning stuff.

But think about it...many people want name brand that they can afford. Clorox is filling that niche. And if that helps get some chemicals out of the system is that not better than them buying the generic or toxic name brand stuff?

I'm with Heidi on this one. I can't necessarily afford to buy Seventh Generation or any of the other comparable green brands. I do want to eventually make my own cleaners, but until I have the room to do that, I feel better buying the Clorox GreenWorks cleaners as my traditional cleaners run out than if I just replaced my Soft Scrub with more Soft Scrub.

I've been known to use Suave Shampoo on my toilet (I brush it out once a week so it's never really icky) and I will probably go back to this as I have several bottles in my stockpile still.

I will have to find it, but there is an article that another list I am on (for JJ's severe food allergies) sent me about this product. It amazes me that they can call the product "green" and people automatically think that it is good for the environment. They basically changed a few things and call it safe for the environment. While it might be safer than their other line, it is far from what you and I would consider green!

That's a major part of what's bothering me about the product line. So and so will try and do something good, and thinking since the company said it was "green" they are mislead into purchasing a product that is only slightly less toxic than the one they already had! Not everyone knows that you still have to watch the labels ..... and like me, most people are not chemists (or whatever profession may cause you to know what all of those chemical names on the bottle mean) and so most of us really don't know what the heck is in those bottles anyway, unless we really sit there and look up every word.

I just wanted to point out that I am not trying to sway anyone's buying decision at all, in case it sounds that way - I am only venting about a company that I feel is dishonest. Thanks for discussing with me :)

I just don't think the homemade green cleaner are expensive or take up a lot of space.

I use the 7th generation window cleaner because I haven't found anything homemade that doesn't streak.

I also use 7th generation dishsoap (and gotten almost free after coupons).

I still use cascade because everything more natural that I've tried stunk. I have nice soft water too.

But for really almost everything else Sal's Suds (a bit pricey, but a $10 bottle I've used for 13 months is still 2/3 full), baking soda, borax, vinagar, and a single can of Bon Ami to clean stainless pans with.

I love using Young Living's "Thieves" cleaner. I use it on everything; carpet, tile, countertops, etc. It is an all natural cleaner, made with essential oils. It is very concentrated; for about $30, you dilute it and it lasts a year.

I've never seen/heard of this stuff before. Is it available through brick and mortar stores or just online?

FYI Re: Clorox Greenworks - I have to say it ......

You can buy it through the Young Living Website. Young Living Essential Oils - Essential Oil Company - Home-Based Business - Natural Health - Office Site Home

All of their products are great. I use the essential oils for different things. I buy the lemon and use it as a cleaner by diluting it. It also takes the fake tattoos off my son...I never could get those off him until I tried that.

There's also a diffuser you can purchase to put the oils in. Makes the whole house smell good and disinfects the air without harsh chemicals...The oils are all natural, no additives.

If you want more information, go to Young Living Essential Oils - Essential Oil Company - Home-Based Business - Natural Health - Office Site Home I have a consultant, but I don't think that it's appropriate to give that information on a post....
