I was just at Stop & Shop today and found out they have an organic and natural section in the Health and Beauty Aids section. Not sure if I'm a bit late on learning this, but it's new to me!

Some of the brands I noticed were J/A/S/O/N (my personal favorite for hand and body lotion), Kiss My Face (not too thrilled with the lotions, but love the organic lip balms), Burt's Bees, Tom's of Maine, Aubrey Organics and more that I can't remember at this time. If I had the time I would've written them all down. I was just excited to find them. The prices were either comparable or less than what I find them for at my local organic and natural food store.

how do you rate the Nature's Promise products??? i've always been hesitate to try em !

Most of what I've tried I've liked.
I tend to really look close at them though. Not all their stuff is organic. But I've had good luck with their milk, cheese, pasta sauce, meats, etc.
The two things I don't particularly like of theirs is their salsa and their granola bars (at the least the chocolate chip ones). I'd pick Cascadian Farms anyday over NP for those.

I shop at Giant and they have Nature's Promise meats...I did a little investigating and found this guide to their products.

I can't find information about the chickens being free-range so my first inclination would be that they are not. I say this because if they were free-range, I would assume that's something that they would want to advertise. I think the only way to know for sure would be to contact the company. I hope this helps!

I was at Stop & Shop the other day and remembered I was getting low on peanut butter. I grabbed a jar of Nature's Promise pb and was on my way. When I got home I put it away.
Today I went to make my daughter a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and went to get the almost empty jar. As I did, I realized that it was also Nature's Promise, but it was a glass jar and the new one I bought, which was the same exact product, was now in a plastic container.
I have been using some glass containers for leftovers and such and I'm finding it harder and harder to find glass anymore. It kind of bummed me out.

Anyone else finding products they once found in glass are now being packaged in plastic?

Give the company a call and tell them you don't want to buy their product in plastic. If a lot of people call about the same issue, they may make a change. I'm sure part of it is the cost of glass vs. the cost pf plastic.

I think Kristen was talking about this awhile ago when she wanted to find ideas for new "tupperware."

I would take OHeather's advice and call the company to let them know how you feel.

As to why they'd change, it could be any number of things. It may be price/cost of production- I'm sure the total weight is much less in plastic and with gas prices as high as they were, it's possibly they made the switch instead of passing a huge markup down to the consumer. On the subject of preference, maybe more people prefer the plastic...who knows? Especially if it's a household with kids, or elderly people who need to be more careful and have packaging be shatter-proof. I know I've uttered a few bad words after trying to open a glass jar for the first time only to have it slip and fall onto the floor.

Just playing devil's advocate here, overall I do prefer glass for stuff like that but plastic sure does make my life a lot easier.

This is a letter I sent to Giant Supermarkets about another Nature's Promise packaing issue. Perhaps others could send similar letters to Giant and Stop and Shop.

I am writing regarding your Nature's Promise brand of teas.

I prefer to purchase as much organic and locally-grown food as I possibly can, out of a concern both for my health and for the environment and the sustainability of agriculture in this country and the world. This concern also leads me to seek out products that are sold in as little packaging as possible, especially if the packaging is not biodegradable.

Recently, I purchased two boxes of Nature's Promise tea. Upon opening them, I was very disappointed to find that the 20 tea bags come in a single, sealed (but not re-usable) plastic bag that takes up less than half of the volume of the actual cardboard tea box. I do understand that you have likely made your Nature's Promise tea boxes the same size as the other brands' tea boxes so that your product appears comparable. I also understand that using a smaller box or no box at all (just a label on a sturdy plastic bag, for example) might make it appear that you are selling fewer tea bags as similar brands, though many brands sell 20 bags per package or box, and you are similar in that respect.

However, despite my understanding the likely reasons you have used wasteful packaging, I feel it is especially inappropriate in a brand that is organic and that people purchase with the same "respect for the environment" with which the tea is grown. People who purchase your product are doing so precisely because they do not want a similar product to other teas: we want something better for the environment, and this includes a concern for the way goods are packaged.

I urge you to consider very seriously choosing smaller packaging that better fits the size of the 20 tea bags that are available in Nature's Promise tea packages. In this regard, the differences would set your brand apart from other brands in a positive way that I believe would increase your sales and the attention your Nature's Promise tea garners from customers.

I'm a coupon newbie...anyone know if this would work? Use 2 Eat Better America coupons ($1 off one Cascadian Farms) AND a $1 off 2 Cascadian Farms from Go Organic For Earth Day booklet on the 2 for $5 frozen veggies? (BTW, this is at Giant if that makes any difference). TIA!

Unfortunately you wouldn't be able to do that. The reason is that both of those coupons are manufacturers coupons, and you're only allowed to use one manufacturer coupon per item.

Now if you had one store-issued coupon and one manufacturer coupon, most places will allow you to use one of each per item.
