Penny/mystery item 7/27-7/28...nope 8/3-8/4

I heard a rumor. A friend of a friend said her Publix manager told her that the upcoming penny item for 7/27 and 7/28 is the reusable shopping bags. I'm holding off on my Publix shopping until Sunday just in case.

I'm not familiar with Publix doing "penny items" ... at least not in the stores here. Can you elaborate on this?

If you're in Florida, you don't get the penny item.

Sunday and Monday of each week Publix offers a mystery penny item in most stores outside Florida. You have to bring in the coupon from the paper. If you spend $10, you get to buy one of the mystery items for $0.01. The coupons usually state something like one item per coupon per customer, although I can't remember the exact wording. If you don't get a newspaper, it's worth asking at the customer service desk if they will let you get the penny item without a physical coupon. Some stores will do that.
