Versatile Vinegar


Vinegar is one of the most useful items that you can have around your household. It is very inexpensive and has a myraid of uses. Among the uses are cooking, cleaning, and medicinal purposes.

COOKING USES
  1. When peeling onions, rub your fingers with white vinegar before and after peeling toremove odor.
  2. Use vinegar to fight fish odors. Put a little in the water when poaching fish. Rub hands with vinegar to eliminate fishy smell.
  3. To rid your house of cooking smells simmer of pot of vinegar and water.
  4. Some of the salty taste in salt-water fish will disappear after soaking in vinegarand rinsing under running cold water.
  5. To tenderize tough meat, rub all sides with vinegar and let stand for two hours before cooking.
  6. When poaching eggs, the whites will set better if a tablespoon of vinegar is added tothe water.
  7. To rid your hands of onion odor rub vinegar on your hands before and after slicing an onion.
  8. For a moist and fluffy chocolate cake, try adding a teaspoon of vinegar to the bakingsoda.
  9. Red cabbage will not turn purple if a tablespoon of vinegar is added to the cooking water
CLEANING USES
  1. use equal parts of white vinegar and salt to clean out coffee and tea stainsstains from your china.
  2. You can clean a scorched iron plate by heating equal parts vinegar and salt in a small pan. Rub solution on the cool iron to remove the stains.
  3. Scrub copper pots with a bit of salt and vinegar to clean.
  4. Film that accummulates in your bathtub can be removed by scrubbing with vinegar.
  5. Save your old toothbrushes to scrub small areas. Also ideal for cleaning your tilegrout.
  6. A window decal can be removed by painting it with vinegar. When it hasthoroughly soaked for a few minutes, it can be wiped off easily.
  7. Use equal parts of warm water and vinegar to clean windows. Dry with a soft clothor newspaper to prevent streaking.
  8. To clean a dirty vase with a small opening, crush some eggshells and mix withwater and vinegar or detergent. Pour into the vase, cover and shake until clean.Rinse thoroughly.
  9. Carpet Cleaner - 1 cup white vinegar, 1 cup ammonia, 2 cups baking soda. Add theseingredients to 1 gallon of water. Great in carpet cleaners or spot cleaning carpets.Also good as an all purpose cleaner.
  10. Crystal glasses and dishes will glisten if you add a few teaspoons of vinegar to the soapy water when washing them.
  11. If you use a dishwasher, a few teaspoons of vinegar added to a cheap dishwashingdetergent will cut the grease and make dishes sparkle.
  12. To clean garbage disposal, freeze vinegar icecubes and then feed them in the disposal.
  13. Clean your steam iron. Put equal amounts of vinegar and water into the tank. Turn on to steam andleave the iron on for five minutes.
  14. Narrow-necked vases can be cleaned easily by putting in two tablespoons of vinegarand a little rice and then filling with hot water. Let the solution stand for afew minutes, then shake well.
  15. To remove lime deposits in a teakettle, fill it with equal parts of water andvinegar, bring to a boil, and let it stand overnight.
  16. To clean Corning Ware teakettles pour 1/4 cup of vinegar, fill with hot water,and let stand for two hours. Rinse well.
  17. You can clean stainless steel with an rag dampened with vinegar.
  18. To clean the microwave, boil a solution of 1/4 cup vinegar to 1 cup water. Put it inthe microwave and the steam will loosen splattered on food particles.
  19. The stains in non-stick pans can be removed by boiling together 1/2 cup vinegar,two tablespoons baking soda, and one cup of water in the pan for 15 minutes.
  20. A little vinegar and salt boiled in a cast iron skillet will remove thecharred food. The outside of the skillet can be cleaned by using oven cleaner. Spray thoroughly, then let it set for an hour. Thestains and crustations can be easily removed with vinegar and water.
  21. A cloth soaked in vinegar will remove spots from stainless steel.
  22. To unclog a drain toss a handfull of baking soda down the drain and add 1/2 cup of vinegar following by hot water.
  23. Tea and coffee stains can be removed from cups using a mixture of equalparts white vinegar and salt.
  24. Clean the refrigerator with equal parts vinegar and water.
  25. Tough stains on glass, aluminum, percolators, pots, and pans can be removedwith a mixture of two cups boiling water and 1/4 cup white vinegar.
  26. To clean brass mix equal parts of salt and flour with enough vinegar to makea paste. Spread thickly on and let dry. Rinse and wipe.
  27. For cleaning copper, fill a spray bottle with hot vinegar and two tablespoonssalt. Spray liberally on copper pots. Rinse and dry.
  28. A good window cleaner can be made with 1/2 cup ammonia, /2 cup white vinegarand two tablesppons carnstarch in a bucket of warm water.
  29. Clean out your refrigerator with a solution of equal parts vinegar and water.
  30. The film that sometimes remains on a floor after washing can be eliminatedby adding white vinegar to a pail of water and rinsing the floor.
  31. A good solution for washing floors is 1/2 cup bleach, 1/4 cup white vinegar,and 1/4 cup washing soda, added to one gallon of warm water. Don't use on cork floors.
  32. To clean wall paneling, mix one tablespoon white vinegar and one tablesppoonolive oil in a quart of warm water. Dip soft cloth in the warm solution,wring it out well and use to rub down paneling. Dry with a soft cloth.
  33. Use vinegar to clean the lime deposits from your bathroom drinking glassand also to remove scrum from bathroom shower walls.
  34. To remove lime accumulation from lavatory fixtures, crumple paper towelsaround faucets and pur on sufficient vinegar to set towels. Let stand for an hour. Lime will soften and be easy to remove.
  35. The odor of a smoke damaged room can be destroyed by simmering vinegar.
  36. Tobacco odors as well as the smell of fresh paint can be reduced by setting out a small bowl of white vinegar.
FABRIC CARE
  1. To prevent colors from running when washing new T-shirts, soak them in cool water andvinegar first.
  2. To get smoke odors out of clothes, add a cup of vinegar to a bath tub of hot water and hangclothes above the steam.
  3. You can get rid of lint in clothes by adding 1/2 cup of vinegar to the rinse water.
  4. Pour vinegar onto a burn. It stops the pain and alleviates healing.
  5. Periodically pour a cup of vinegar in the washing machine and let it run through the regular cycle in orderto freshen up your washing machine. This will dissolve the soap residue.
  6. You can brighten the fabric colors by adding 1/2 cup vinegar to the rinse cycle.
  7. For removing perspiration odors and stains, nothing beats vinegar. Spray andtreat the odors and stains before tossing clothes into the wash.
  8. To remove slight scorch marks, rub white vinegar lightly into the fabric. Wipe witha clean cloth.
  9. Remove tough stains such as fruit, jam, mustard, coffee, and tea. Rough vinegar on these stains andthen wash as usual.
  10. To set colors in fabric, add 1 cup white vinegar to 1 gallon of water. Soak fabric in this solution until the fabric stops bleeding.
  11. You can make a soapless spot cleaner by mixing two cups of isopropyl rubbing
  12. If white vinegar used as a stain remover changes the color of a dyed fabric, rinse the affected area with water and add a few drops of ammonia. Rinse thoroughly after this treatment.
HEALTH AND BEAUTY TREATMENTS
  1. To get rid of flaky skin or the remnants of last summer's tan, add a cup of natural cider vinegar or the juice of three fresh lemons to your bathwater. Slough away the dead skin cells with a dry sponge or brush.
  2. Vinegar can be used as a douche.
  3. Vinegar can be used as a hair rinse. It gives the hair a nice sheen.Italso helps fight dandruff.
  4. Apple cider vinegar are soothe an upset stomach. Drink two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar in a cup of water.
  5. Vinegar can relieve itching from mosquito bites.
  6. Vinegar can relieve sunburn.
  7. Vinegar can be used to soothe a sore throat. Gargle with one teaspoon in a glassof water, then swallow.
  8. Vinegar can soothe a bee sting.
  9. A teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water with a bit of honey will give youan overall good feeling.
  10. Add 1/4 cup or more of vinegar to the vaporized to treat sinus infections and chest colds.
  11. Clean eyeglasses with a drop of vinegar.
IN THE YARD
  1. Use vinegar to kill weeds. Spray full strength on plants until plants have starved.
  2. Use vinegar to deter ants. Spray in areas where you have seen ants.
  3. Spray vinegar on areas where you don't want the cat walking.
  4. Use to increase the soil acidity for plants that love acidic soil(azaleas, gardenias)
  5. Kill unwanted grass growing on driveways.
  6. Freshen cut flowers with 2 tablespoons vinegar and 1 teaspoon sugar.
