Default Fruits grown in Chile?

Okay am I the only one who won't buy fruit grown in Chile? Years ago I read a report about what they used as pesticides. I've not bought fruit/veggies from there since then. My inlaws think I'm crazy!LOL

No, you're not crazy. I did a whole blog post last year about how I'll no longer by canned citrus fruits because most of them are made in China. You're not crazy. It's a food safety/handling issue for me more than pesticides issue.

I only buy USA. if it is not grown in the USA, then I do without. I can as many organic fruits as I can in the summer for the winter months. That way I am not at the mercy of the stores when I need fruit. I would love to have oranges when they are not in season for California or Florida. I would love to have peaches when they are not in season for Ga. NC or Va. but I can't so I don't. I eat what I have canned. I dry apples when they are in season for our area. and I also have been known to dehydrate peaches and strawberries when they are in our area. These are the things I do so I don't havae to buy china or chile fruits when ours are out of season. Maybe you can start canning your fruits from the USA that are organic while they are in season. then you wont have to buy anything that is form other countries. Did you know that Grapes freeze wonderfully. My grandchildren love frozen grape as a treat of snack. So do it. they are the yummiest.

Our area is very rich in Grape vineyards, peach orchards, and apple orchards. the are wineries here so that is why the vineyards. we have luscious local organic grapes. I don't have my grapevines anymore. I had huge ones at my old house I grew. I used our old clothes line poles and put chicken wire across the top for the grape vines to grow on and I planted two grapevines at each end. boy those things where huge when we sold that house. I hated to leave them behind. but with all the organic vineyards. We never go without grapes and i freeze them for the kids and myself. I like frozen peaches too. and frozen strawberries. I froze a ton of thoughs and my grandson Jason ate most of them. I just have a couple quarts left. But he is the reason I froze as many as I did. I love them to have those wonderful organic fresh frozen at home fruits. that way. you know they are good for them. geeze I am getting myself excited. I love it when all the veggies and fruits come in. I freeze and can all summer lone. it is great!

Sometimes it is hard though when you don't have an abundance of locally grown produce. I fully have plans to grow my own grapes when I own my own home (we rent right now and although I have a garden and some raspberry bushes, we won't be living her much longer) and there is pretty much 0 farming around here. So while I look for grapes and other produce that is grown in the US, it is hard when your kids can eat a bunch of grapes in a day.

So while I try to buy US grown 75% of the time, sometimes we buy some grown in Chili. And no one here sells organic grapes in the stores. So no matter what I buy, I wash them well.
