Default So Stoneyfield Farm makes some of Trader Joe's yogurt

You may or may not realize but Trader Joe tries to keep it a secret who makes their private label products. Will today I figured out Stoneyfield Farm makes some of their yogurt because they had sign announcing the recall for Fat Free Blueberry yogurt dated April 13-26. I told the cashier that was funny because Stoneyfield made the same announcement a few weeks ago. She just smiled!

Anyway I thought it was funny because I'm always trying to guess which brand is private labeled by TJ! I buy their soy creamer and always wonder if it is Silk.

It's not all that uncommon that the major manufacturers make the store brand products, as I'm sure you're well aware. My mother worked in the corp. office of a major grocery store, once upon a time, and she told me about many of the matchups. (I definately don't remember now, since it was years ago). I also had a prof. in college tell the class that he worked @ a packaging facility, where the product was the same, but the boxes the product went into was different. He also said that the major brands had a different standard than store brands. So for example, BirdsEye may have allow 1 in 10,000 imperfections, while TJ's may allow 3, 6, or more per 10,000.

I am a former TJ's employee (worked there for two years) and while I can't confirm that TJ's privately brands Stonyfield Farms I can tell you that certain yogurts come in boxes labeled TRADER JOE'S in the Stonyfield Farms font. They are the individual flavored yogurts (not the soy or greek).

The baking mixes (chocolate truffle, orange cranberry, green tea, banana bread) are often sold at gourmet home parties--not the pampered chef but something like that. They were selling there for 7$ to 10$ dollars per box and they are less than $3 at TJ's.

Private branding can save tons of money!

I missed this last year! I figured it out too when they had that recall! The TJ's yogurt is about $1 cheaper than the same at the local organic market, and about $2 cheaper than all of my other local grocers. I usually buy the brand name from the organic market when I have a coupon, and when I don't it's TJ's all the way.

Thanks for the information tiffini! I've only used the vanilla baking mix from Trader Joe's, and that was very good.
