Organic Swanson Broth $2.00 a carton

I was looking for some chicken broth today at Walmart for my infamous chicken noodle soup and Walmart had the cartons of broth for $2.00 each. Included in the price was thier organic variety, so I picked up 30 cartons. Of course I had $1.00/2 coupons from the inserts

• Swanson Broth, Any 32 Oz. Carton$1.00/211-25-2007Insert10-14-07 SS

They also had the cans for .50/1 and there are coupons for that as well (not sure if they had organic variety in the cans)

• Swanson Broth, Any Cans $0.25/3 12-23-2007 Insert 11-11-07 SS1
• Swanson Broth, Any Cans $0.25/4 12-23-2007 Insert11-11-07 SS1
• Swanson Broth, Any Cans $1.00/8 12-23-2007 Insert11-11-07 SS1

I did not have my 11/11 inserts in yet so I did not bother with the cans (plus I already have a raincheck for those at another store for cheaper)

Heidi, the reg price for the Swanson Organic at my Kroger is $2.99.

Is $1.50 a great stock up price? Obviously, that would be 1/2 price. Or did you just need 30 cartons to make a gigantic pot of chicken noodle soup?

I'd say that's a good stock up price. If you can get the full-size carton for $1.50 or less that's as cheap as I've seen it- ther than the Imagine that has been on sale for $2 at Safeway with a $1 off coupon!!!!!

LOL no I only used 5 cartons for my soup but I think the $1.50 price is pretty decent. We use a lot of chicken broth here...and per oz. that is about .05 cents an oz. which is better than the can price most of the time with lousy coupons. I mean in all honesty I hate paying more than .75 for but its a staple...of course I could make my own stock but I am realistic and know that ain't going to happen.

There were Swanson Broth coupons in the 10-14-07 Smart Source inserts, and also in the 11-11-07 Smart Source inserts. However, different areas got different amounts.

Just try boiling a chicken. Then freeze what you don't use for later. Its a lot cheaper.

I agree that making your own broth is a good option if you either eat a lot of chicken or you don't need that much broth.

When DH is home, I usually make as much chicken as he'll let me get away with (), and use canned broth as a supplement.

One of our favorite meals is to eat seasoned boiled chicken, w/o the skin, with steamed veggies on the side. I like my own broth best and freeze it in ice cube trays.
